Today we continued learing about colors. We read "Mouse Paint" then learned hands on how mixing red and yellow paint gave us orange.

Yesterday the children did a fun activity that helped them with fine motor skills and name/letter recognition. Take a piece of foam and write the child's name on it. Then take clothespins and write each letter of child's name on a different clothespin. They then have to match up the lettered clothespins with the matching letters in their name. They also have to work hard on using their index and thumb to pinch the clothespin open. I recommend this activity for upper 2 year old and on. Children any younger have a hard time pinching the clothespin. Have fun my kiddos really enjoy this!

Colors and B

I had almost deleted this blog and was going to keep up with
The Little Things in Life(this is my main daily blog), but decided to keep at it. I will probably only post one time a week, giving a break down on what we did for the week at daycare.

So for the few weeks we have learned about the letter A and apples. Last week we focused on the letter B. We made a letter B word wall. Everyday the kids would think of words that started with the letter B and we made a word wall going over the words everyday. The children went on a Bear Hunt. I have a great c.d. "Kids in Action" and the children love to do the Bear Hunt. We decorated our names with Beads and Read "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" .

This week we are learning about colors. We read "Little Blue and Little Yellow" yesterday. The kids learned that mixing blue and yellow make green.

Today we made a rainbow with all the different colors. It was an activity that focused on listening and learning the correct color placement.

Food

This week we have been learning all about food. We have been reading "Warthogs in the Kitchen". It is a fun book about warthogs that make cupcakes, but in their cupcakes are pickles. In the back of the book is a recipe for cupcake minus the pickles. The kids practiced dumping the ingredients into a bowl and we all took turns mixing the batter. The kids did a great job filling up the muffin pan.

Cirlce of Friends

The week of August 17th-21st we learned about our friends in daycare. We started off the week making a poster of our handprints. Each handprint was labled with the child's name...so the kids can look at it and learn name recognition.

We took turns painting on each of our friends paper. Each child picked a color to paint with, and they took turns painting in the box with their name on it. After a few minutes we switched papers and painted some more. When we were all done each child helped paint on everyones paper. Each child took home a ziploc bag with instructions on it...they then returned it the next day with photographs, a book and other favorites. We learned some new things about our friends.

Me, Myself and I

I was so busy last week I did not have a chance to post what my daycare kiddos did. First off we had a new little one start and he adjusted very well with the other kiddos.
Last week was all about me, myself and I. Tuesday we read the kissing hand, a cute book about a raccoon leaving his mom and going to school. Check it out one of my favorites. We then did an activity that goes along with the book.

On Wednesday we wrote our names in crayon on a piece of paper and then painted over them with watercolor paints. This is just one way that kids can learn name recognition.

On Thursday the kids told me some of things they can do by themselves and then they colored a figure to look like them.

My new blog

So I started a new blog, mainly focusing on fun activities for kids. My daycare kiddos are still on summer break and will return in 2 weeks. I have a lot of things to do before they start. My goal is to post on here the fun activities we do daily and to share with all the Mommies out there who are looking for fun ideas for their children.

In order to protect my parents privacy I will not post pictures of their children's faces (I will however post pics of my own child). I will post pictures of them doing projects and lessons, but you will not see their faces. I will share with you all the fun lessons we have planned for the month, the activities we do daily and the wonderful books we read daily.

I hope to get more posted on here in the next couple of weeks when my kids return from summer break. I better get busy because I have a lot of things to do before they get here.
